U.S. Tobacco Volumes Decline as Nation Reopens

Sales of electronic cigarettes have also fallen in the past year, Nielsen reports. Overall, e-cigarette sales are down 4.9 percent though the pandemic is not all to blame for this change. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has prioritize the enforcement of regulations on e-cigarettes, an action that has forced many manufacturers such as JUUL Labs, R.J. Reynolds Vapor Co., and Fontem Ventures to all adapt and discontinue some products that are not deemed unauthorized. JUUL, oftentimes seen as the leading manufacturer in the e-cigarette category, saw an 11.1 percent drop in dollar sales in Nielsen’s recent report. Back in August 2019, that same report showed that JUUL had a 50.2 percent increase in sales.
