Some of the facts presented by the report include how e-cigarettes are available in more than 7,700 flavors with new ones added each month and how the sale of flavored cigars have increased by nearly 50 percent since 2008, and how flavored cigars made up 52.1 percent of the U.S. cigar market in 2015.
Currently, there are two bills in Congress that would scale back the FDA’s power over regulating these products, according to this report. One would move the predicate date which would allow more products to be on the market without regulation. Another bill would exempt premium cigars from FDA regulations. The report calls on the FDA to prohibit all the flavored tobacco products for the safety of kids and youth.
