Corona Virus: Guidance for Businesses and Employers

The Corona Virus, known also as COVID-19, has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO), and it’s become a major disruptor of life and business across the world in the past few weeks.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released a series of tips for employers to follow in order to contain the spread of the Corona Virus. Among those recommendations include encouraging sick employees to stay home, separating sick employees, encouraging proper respiratory and hand hygiene by all employees, performing routine environmental cleaning, advise travel precautions, and to have a flexible plan in place to plan for a possible outbreak within the U.S.

For the tobacco industry, the Corona Virus is having its own impact on business. Some upcoming events, such as Davidoff’s Camp Camacho, have had to be postponed until later in the year, those reps and employees accustomed to traveling are reporting empty planes and fears of just how long the impact of the Corona Virus will last is inserting a level of fear and worry into business.

While some large events have been cancelled or postponed, others that are set to happen months from now are going on as planned. Today, the Premium Cigar Association (PCA) issued an email statement to its members about the status of its 2020 trade show and international convention. The PCA had the following to say about this year’s show:

We understand concerns about COVID-19 Coronavirus are top of mind, and we want to be as transparent as possible and share information about what we are doing to prepare for PCA 2020 in Las Vegas. PCA 2020 is still on. Most events getting canceled right now are actually being moved to the summer, when warm weather is anticipated to slow the spread of COVID-19.

We are committed to hosting a safe and successful show. Our top priority is focused on the health and safety of all participants at PCA 2020, including attendees, exhibitors, vendors, staff, industry partners, and others involved. Attendees and exhibitors with questions or concerns are encouraged to email our response team at

What is Show Management doing to prepare for PCA 2020? We are closely monitoring the news and will follow any protocols provided by the CDC and WHO. We are working closely with the Sands/Venetian to ensure the safety of all show participants. The Sands/Venetian is closely monitoring COVID-19 developments. The situation is evolving rapidly and their Emergency Management Team works closely with local officials. They continue to follow the guidance of the CDC and Southern Nevada Health District for local direction. In addition to customary cleaning procedures, the Sands/Venetian have dedicated staff to focus exclusively on the safeguards being implemented throughout the resort.
