In addition to investing more time and money in its age verification processes, Walmart revealed that it was making two voluntary but significant changes to its tobacco product offerings and business practices to reduce the chances of an underage sale. First, it will discontinue the sale of fruit- and dessert-flavored electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS). As of July 1, 2019, it will also raise the minimum age to purchase tobacco products–including ENDS–to 21.
“Our sincere intent and hope are that the changes outlined in this letter will have a substantial public health impact by helping to keep tobacco products out of the hands of minors,” the letter ends.
