With the FDA authorization, these four tobacco products can be legally sold and distributed in the U.S. The authorization does not mean these products are safe or “FDA approved,” the agency stated along with reiterating its stance that there are no safe tobacco products.
Verve was previously on the market but was discontinued by U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Co.’s parent company, Altria Group, in Feb. 2019. While it is unclear whether Verve will return to the market, U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Co. is expected to apply its learnings from Verve’s PMTA and approval process to its oral nicotine product line, On! as it works to get those products authorized by the FDA.
