the 26th Annual Michael
Martin
Memorial
Golf
Tournament honored the memory of
North Carolina Highway Patrolman
Michael Martin, a Mount Olive
College alumnus who was killed in the
line of duty. Proceeds from the event,
which featured Long Drive Champion
David Mobley, were estimated at
$50,000. The funds raised will support
student scholarships and the Trojan
Club at Mount Olive College.
“David Mobley was such a hit at
last year’s tournament…[so] we were
excited to be able to bring him back
again this year,” said Tournament
Coordinator Neil Price, who works
with Friendly Mart.
“The fellowship and joy at the
Michael Martin Tournament were
a heartwarming inspiration,” added
Dr. John Blackwell, vice president for
institutional advancement at Mount
Olive College. “We are deeply grateful
to Neil Price, Bill Clingan, A.N.
Martin, Ernie Taylor, Dean Rouse and
all of the vendors and participants that
made this event happen.”
First flight winners were Jack
Kornegay, Kevin Kornegay, and Frank
Brown. Second flight winners were
Cliff Best, Vaden Lee, Brad Peele and
Brandon Jones. As an added bonus
for this year’s event, Sale Auto Mall
in nearby Kinston sponsored a car
giveaway for a hole-in-one on one of
the par three holes.
Next year’s event is slated for August
21, 2014. For more information or to
register for the tournament contact
