Some of the areas and topics the ANPRM seeks comments on includes:
- How flavors can lead to increased tobacco use, especially among youth and young adults
- How flavors can help cigarette smokers use less harmful products
- The role local, state and international restrictions on flavored tobacco product sales
- Adverse health effects of flavored tobacco products
- How the public views flavors in noncombustible tobacco products and their addictive nature
With the FDA issuing the ANPRM on March 20, 2018, a 90-day comment period will commence on March 21. With the comments and information gathered during this period, the FDA could eventually develop new rules and regulations on flavored tobacco products.
