TOBACCO OUTLET BUSINESS
JULY/AUGUST 2012
PRODUCT PROFILE
Brazilian Beauty
Dona Flor Cigars will debut its Brazilian
cigars in the U.S. market at the IPCPR show.
Dona Flor, which features cigars with 100
percent Brazilian tobacco, expects to fill a
void in the North American market with its
unique and exotic blends featuring “Brazil’s
dark treasure,” the Mata Fina tobacco.
Manufactured in the state of Bahia located
in northeast Brazil, Dona Flor Cigars are the
result of the collaboration between Cuban
cigar maker Felix Menendez (who was
involved in the making of famous Cuban
brands Montecristo and H. Upmann in
the pre-Castro era) and Brazilian tobacco
grower Mario Amerino, and are now being
brought to the U.S. through Chris Edge,
owner of Dona Flor U.S.A. Dona Flor’s
cigars, which have garnered ratings from
Cigar Aficionado
Magazine of ‘92, ‘89, and
‘88, are 100 percent “puro” with filler, binder,
and wrapper all grown in Bahia. Dona Flor

New from Nicaragua
Joya De Nicaragua will release its latest creation,
“Cuenca y Blanco,” at the IPCPR show in August.
Medium in body, this full-flavored blend is the
first collaborative liga resulting from the exciting,
new relationship between Dr. Alejandro Martinez
Cuenca and Sr. Jose Blanco—two master cigar
makers. Expertly crafted by hand, the new cigar
reflects a departure from Joya de Nicaragua’s
traditional puros of all Nicaraguan tobaccos. The
Cuenca y Blanco is comprised of air-cured black
tobaccos from four different countries of origin.
Handmade with aged filler tobaccos including
Habano Seed leaf from Nicaragua’s Esteli Valley
and the volcanic isle of Ometepe, Piloto Cubano from the La Canela
region of the Dominican Republic and an aromatic viso from Peru’s famed
Tarapoto region, the cigar is finished with a beautiful Grade 1 Ecuador
Habano wrapper. Cuenca y Blanco will be available in five classic sizes:
Corona Real 5 1/2x46, Robusto Deluxe 5 1/4x50, Toro Supremo 6x54,
Torpedo Especial 6 1/4x52 and Lonsdale Club 6 1/2x44. Joya de Nicaragua,
