Reimagining Making Money and Doing Good

How a retailer and cigar manufacturers teamed up with Operation: Cigars for Warriors to raise $15,000.

The golf tournament was not just successful because of all the donations CFW received or the great business that the companies did. It was successful because of the way Mike Dove—and his whole family who helped him throughout the event—ran it so smoothly and created a very satisfying tournament.

During the event, the golfers received some welcome gifts that included a golf cart to use during the event, premium cigars, breakfast catered by Sherms Catering, swag, a commemorative ball marker and, on top of that, a first-class dinner! Mike and his team also had some other fun events and giveaways that came out during the tournament, like a mulligan and tee box advancement package, a golf grenade package, dice roll and even a putting contest! All of this took place at the legendary Wild Quail Golf & Country Club.

There are many other ways that you as a retailer can support our deployed service members through CFW. They don’t all have to be record-breaking events! Just put some time, love and effort into it, and it will be successful—and then grow it year after year. Learn what works and what doesn’t. Don’t stress over needing to ask for advice or help.
I will leave you with two pieces of advice. During every festival, tournament or special event, there are things that will go wrong. Things will happen, and most people will never notice. The best you can do is to learn from it. Lastly, try to have fun while doing good deeds and supporting a great cause.
