despite adversity,
the industry

persevere
.
D
espite an industry under
siege from government,
consumer groups and the
health establishment, it’s gratifying
to note that we continue as a vital,
profitable and dynamic industry.
The sons and daughters of earlier
generations are receiving the baton
from their forbears and managing
the business to higher levels of
quality and profitability. Nowhere
is this more evident than in the cigar
business where the Padron, Oliva,
Fuente, Torano, Perdomo, Reyes/
Diaz, Quesada, Leon and other
family scions embrace the traditional
family business, or in the cigarette
business, where Joel Sherman and
family carry on a great tradition.
Another important measure of
vitality is the ongoing success of
industry trade shows—AWMA,
Tobacco Plus Expo, NATO and
